Food Festival Plans Take Shape
Plans are being laid for Shetland’s first food festival, to be held between 3rd and 12th October 2008. The programme for the Shetland Festival of Food will include several events embracing food of all kinds, but the emphasis will be very much on celebrating Shetland’s excellent local produce and making people in and beyond Shetland aware of just how much the isles have to offer. Johnsmas Foy Marks Shetland Midsummer
Every year, the people of Shetland celebrate midsummer in the Johnsmas Foy, a recently-revived festival that, centuries ago, used to mark the arrival of the Dutch herring fleet in the islands. An exciting line-up of local and international events is in place for the 2008 Foy, which this year celebrates Shetland’s historic connection with the ports of the Hanseatic League, a partnership that dominated trade in the islands for more than 300 years.
