Shetland Drinks and BeveridgesBeverages

Local cafés, restaurants and outside caterers offer a huge range of teas, coffees and soft drinks. Locally roasted coffee is available and specialist coffee suppliers can offer delicious coffees at local events.

Although many Shetlanders have made their own beer, it was not until 1997 that a brewery was established in the islands. Interest in smaller-scale, traditional brewing has grown steadily in Britain, due in no small measure to the activities of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), which was established by four beer enthusiasts in 1971 in response to the tendency for large brewing companies to displace traditional, local beers.

Shetland is, as yet, lacking a distillery. However, it may only be a matter of time before whisky and, perhaps, other spirits are produced in the islands.
